Auditor Says Clearer Rules Needed For Use Of Drilling Fees

By Marcellus Shale – CBS Pittsburgh HARRISBURG, Pa. (KDKA) — A new report says better guidance must be given to local governments on how they are spending impact fees generated by natural gas drilling.
North Strabane Township is one of the local communities mentioned in the Pennsylvania Auditor General’s report.
State Auditor General Eugene DePasquale says the impact fees generated from natural gas drilling were intended to help local governments cope with the burden of drilling, like preventing water well pollution and fixing roads damaged by transporting heavy drilling machinery.
