Reuters says “freedom from bias.. shall at all times be fully preserved” but the news service’s reporting of fake fractivist news says just the opposite.

A news story out today from Reuters illustrate just how much fake fractivist news there is out there and how incredible stealthily it’s done. Titled simply as “U.S. Justice pledges to prosecute activists who damage pipelines,” it sounds innocuous enough but a close reading indicates its anything but that. It’s biased to the very core.

Self-righteous vandal Ken Ward

The fake fractivist news aspect of the article is apparent in the opening sentence (emphasis added):

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. Department of Justice on Friday pledged to prosecute protesters who damage oil pipelines and other energy infrastructure, a move that could escalate tensions between climate activists and the administration of President Donald Trump.

Notice the juxtaposition of “climate activists” (white hats) with the “administration of Donald Trump” (black hats). Then, there is the bit about how the prosecution could “escalate tensions.” Yeah, and the prosecution of the Dapper Don, John Gotti, escalated tensions between Cosa Nostra and the Bush Administration, too. So what? Crime is crime and “climate activists” who vandalize pipelines at great danger to themselves and others are criminals who deserve to be prosecuted regardless how much tensions are escalated.

That isn’t all. Here’s some more from the story:

Last month’s letter to Sessions, spearheaded by Representative Ken Buck, a Republican, and signed by at least two Democrats, said that when a protester burns a hole in an operating pipeline it risks igniting the contents and “killing not only the perpetrator but other innocent victims.” The letter had no details on any protesters who had ever actually taken a blowtorch to a live pipeline.

Five of the protesters, who say they only turned off valves on the pipelines, responded to Buck this week in a letter saying that their actions were nonviolent and were the “last resort in a desperate and necessary effort to avert catastrophic climate change.”

The gratuitous inclusion of the “no details” comment on behalf the criminals is Exhibit A with respect to the fake fractivist news this story represents. Any real independent journalist could have done a quick internet search to find our story on DAPL violence or this one in the Argus Leader. He might have even found this video on YouTube of these “climate activist” criminals bragging about setting things on fire, blowing holes in pipes and calling it “non-violent,” of course, which is a blatant lie:

Reuters says, in so many words, “well, it wasn’t a live pipeline” as if that made the action any less criminal or the criminals knew what was dangerous and what wasn’t. The childish braggadocio of this pair of spoiled Thelma and Louise wannabes is only matched by their supreme self-righteousness, so typical of the fractivist shills enabled by wealthy special interests about which they don’t even have a clue.

And, there’s this from the Reuters fake fractivist news:

States brought charges against the protesters. Ken Ward, who closed an emergency valve on a Kinder Morgan pipeline in Washington state that transports oil sands crude from Canada, was sentenced to 32 days with most of it to be spent in community service…

Andrew Black, head of the Association of Oil Pipe Lines, applauded the DOJ’s move, saying that closing a valve without simultaneously controlling pumps along the pipeline could cause a dangerous rupture and a spill.

But Ward said the Justice Department was going after the wrong parties. “In a sane world, the DOJ would be using its discretion to prosecute pipeline and fossil fuel companies for causing irreparable harm to the planet,” he said.

Really? Why is Reuters giving Ward an opportunity to rationalize his criminal activity? When did that become the template for crime reporting? The answer, of course, is that Reuters empathizes, to some degree, with the criminals in this case. It buys their story and thinks it needs to be told. It has shares their interests in part. Yet, here is what the Thomson Reuters “Trust Principles” say (emphasis added):

  1. That Thomson Reuters shall at no time pass into the hands of any one interest, group or faction;
  2. That the integrity, independence and freedom from bias of Thomson Reuters shall at all times be fully preserved;
  3. That Thomson Reuters shall supply unbiased and reliable news services to newspapers, news agencies, broadcasters and other media subscribers and to businesses governments, institutions, individuals and others with whom Thomson Reuters has or may have contracts;
  4. That Thomson Reuters shall pay due regard to the many interests which it serves in addition to those of the media; and
  5. That no effort shall be spared to expand, develop and adapt the news and other services and products so as to maintain its leading position in the international news and information business.

Tell me this is unbiased reporting; that Reuters is carrying the torch for “climate activists” in general and, by extension, these criminals. Convince me I’m wrong. Go ahead, let’s hear the excuses, the rationalizations and the pompous self-righteousness that seems to characterize all these people.
