Noble Energy Inc. is selling off its Marcellus Shale natural gas wells in the next several months for more than $1 billion, ending a six-year tenure in Appalachian natural gas production that began with a multibillion-dollar joint venture with Consol Energy Inc. in 2011 and its own $3.4 billion initial investment in Marcellus Shale acreage and wells a year later.
