Rice Energy, one of Ohio’s biggest oil and gas drillers, being acquired for $6.7B

An oil and gas company already one of the region’s most active drillers has bought an Ohio shale-drilling powerhouse for $6.7 billion, creating a monster in the domestic natural-gas industry.

EQT Corp. announced the planned acquisition of Rice Energy Inc. on Monday. Both companies are especially active in the Marcellus shale in nearby southwestern Pennsylvania, with EQT No. 1 and Rice No. 3 in Pennsylvania shale drilling producers, according to sister publication Pittsburgh Business Times.
