The Shale Gas News, heard every Saturday at 10 AM on 94.3 FM and 1510 AM, talked about offshore drilling, energy dominance, exports and much more last week.

Every Saturday Rusty Fender and I host a morning radio show to discuss all things natural gas. This week, as guests, we had Jim Willis from Marcellus Drilling News discussing the top 5 stories of the last 6 months and Tom Shepstone of Shepstone Management Company, Inc. and Natural Gas NOW discussing the DRBC and SRBC power grabs.

The Shale Gas News, typically, is broadcast live. On the July 1st show (click above), we covered the following new territory (see news excerpts below):

  • Trump moves to dump Obama offshore drilling plan to open up Arctic, Atlantic. President Donald Trump has ordered his Cabinet to move ahead on replacing the Obama administration’s offshore drilling program, with an eye to opening up the Atlantic and Arctic coastlines to oil and gas development. In doing so Trump hopes to expand offshore drilling into coastal areas that have long been off-limits to the industry, while undoing a decision by former president Obama that the environmental risks in drilling in the Arctic and Atlantic were too great.
  • Trump Urges ‘Energy Dominance’ as He Promotes Exports, Jobs.  WASHINGTON — The Trump administration said Thursday it is taking steps to expand oil drilling in the Arctic and Atlantic oceans as President Donald Trump continues to push for U.S. “energy dominance” in the global market. The Interior Department is rewriting a five-year drilling plan established by the Obama administration, with an eye toward opening areas in the Arctic and Atlantic oceans that now are off-limits to drilling.
  • Antero Resources Pulls Curtain Back on Plans for 2017. Ladies and gentleman: Start your drill bits! Yesterday Antero Resources, one of the biggest drillers in the Marcellus/Utica, released their road map for what lies ahead in 2017 for the company. Among the gems: The company plans to do a serious amount of drilling. They will have drilled 170 new wells, bringing them online, by the end of the year, with another 30 drilled but not completed.
  • Explosion & Fire at Rice Energy Drill Pad in Washington County, PA. What a way to ring in the New Year. Some 16 different fire departments were called out to a 4-alarm fire at Rice Energy’s Papa Bear well pad in Somerset Township (Washington County), PA, on January 1st. Rice contractors were in the process of fracking the Papa Bear well pad on Sunday afternoon (yes, gas workers work on Sundays and holidays!) when one of the 20 pumps being used experienced “equipment failure.” Fortunately, no one was injured.
  • FERC Approves $1.8B Leach & Rayne XPress Pipeline Projects. Yesterday the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) voted to approve and issue a certificate to Columbia Pipeine’s Leach XPress and Rayne XPress pipeline projects. This is fantastic news for the Marcellus/Utica region. MDN has covered these projects from their beginning. In August 2014 Columbia, then a subsidiary of Nisource, committed to building the two projects that will flow Marcellus/Utica gas to the Gulf Coast.
  • Great Scott! Eclipse Drills New Longest Lateral in World – in Utica. Eclipse Resources, a Marcellus/Utica pure play driller headquartered in State College, PA that drills mostly in Ohio, has done it again. Yesterday as part of Eclipse’s first quarter 2017 update, the company announced it has broken its own record for drilling the longest land-based lateral well in the world by drilling a Utica well with a lateral that’s 19,300 feet long (3.7 miles). Incredible!
  • Help Wanted: 15,000 Workers Needed for Rover Pipeline, STAT! Some really big news coming from the Utica Upstream conference held Wednesday at Walsh University (in North Canton, OH). As we previously reported, Rover Pipeline got permission from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to begin construction on March 3rd.
