The Shale Gas News, heard every Saturday at 10 AM on 94.3 FM and 1510 AM, talked about fractivist funding, Utica wells, climate data and much more last week.

Every Saturday Rusty Fender and I host a morning radio show to discuss all things natural gas. This week, as guests, we had Trevor Walczak owner of Independence Timber Company and Kevin Garber, shareholder Energy & Natural Resources Group of Babst Calland.

The Shale Gas News, typically, is broadcast live. On the July 15th show (click above), we covered the following new territory (see news excerpts below):

  • Lawmakers Ask For Probe Into Alleged Russian Funding of Anti-Fracking Groups. Whispers of Russian interference in American affairs just won’t go away. And it’s not just the alleged interference you’re probably thinking of that’s in the news again. U.S. House Science, Space, and Technology Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) and Energy Subcommittee Chairman Randy Weber (R-Texas) sent a letter Friday to the Trump administration asking for a probe into whether Russia is bankrolling U.S. anti-fracking groups in an effort to sway public opinion against the U.S. shale industry and strengthen Russia’s global market share.
  • NASA, NOAA and UK’s Met Office Falsify Temp Data to Show Warmer Temps. Something that we find to be an outrage is not even getting a passing acknowledgment by mainstream media: most of the climate data collected and pedaled by NASA, NOAA and UK’s Met Office is (our word) falsified. Let us explain. When collecting data, there will be times that a given data point (say a temperature reading) seems incorrect.
  • Corp Raider Jana Sends Nastygram to EQT Demanding it Split in Two. Earlier this week MDN told you the news that corporate raider Jana Partners, along with the Cohen family (of Atlas Energy fame), are colluding to try and stop the merger/sale of Rice Energy to EQT. The two groups together now own nearly 6% of EQT’s stock. Jana is trying to get two people added to EQT’s board. Their demands? Abandon the buyout/merger of Rice Energy, and that EQT needs to split itself in two, right now, into upstream (drilling) and midstream (pipelines).
  • Rice Midstream Investors Hope Deal with EQT Doesn’t Happen. When EQT and Rice Energy announced a deal in June for EQT to buyout and merge in Rice to create the largest natgas-producing company in the U.S., it seemed like a match made in heaven. However, not everyone is in favor of the merger, including a corporate raider who know owns nearly 6% of EQT’s stock. You can add another group–from the “inside”–that doesn’t want to see the merger happen either: investors in Rice Midstream.
  • JKLM Drilling 12 Utica Wells in Potter County, PA This Year. It’s been a while since we’ve updated you on a little-known (but rapidly becoming better known) company called JKLM Energy. In May 2016, the last time we wrote about JKLM, we told you the company had successfully drilled and was flowing gas from Potter County, PA’s first Utica Shale well. JKLM is owned by Terry Pegula, the guy who sold most of his Marcellus assets and used the money to buy the Buffalo Bills football team.
  • CONSOL Energy’s Split into 2 Companies Nearly Complete, New Name? CONSOL Energy, headquartered in Pittsburgh, began life as a coal company some 150 years ago. For the past half dozen years MDN has reported on CONSOL’s transformation from coal company to natural gas company. That transformation is now nearly complete. Yesterday CONSOL filed paperwork with the Securities and Exchange Commission that lays out a plan for the final split. CONSOL the coal company will retain the CONSOL name and get various coal mines and other coal-related assets.
