The Shale Gas News, heard every Saturday at 10 AM on 94.3 FM, 1510 AM and Sundays on YesFM, talked about flaring & venting, Rice Energy purchase, pipeline projects and much more last week.

The Shale Gas News has grown to THREE stations! We are now broadcasting with YesFM. YesFM will be airing the full 60 minute version of the program on Sunday mornings. YesFM broadcasts primarily in Sullivan and Bradford counties, with some ancillary coverage in neighboring counties and even over the border into New York.

Every Saturday Rusty Fender and I host a morning radio show to discuss all things natural gas. This week , as guests, we had Senator Gene Yaw, serving Bradford, Lycoming, Sullivan, Susquehanna (part) and Union Counties and Tom Troxell, business development manager, of Budget Long Term Rental.

The Shale Gas News, typically, is broadcast live. On the October 7th show (click above), we covered the following new territory (see news excerpts below):

  • Judge Rules Against BLM, Orders NatGas Venting/Flaring Rule Back Into Effect. In a potential whiplash for the oil and gas industry, a federal judge in San Francisco ruled Wednesday night that the Trump administration broke the law when it tried to indefinitely postpone an Obama-era rule governing associated natural gas flaring and venting on public and tribal lands.
  • EQT Raises $3B in IOUs as Down Payment for Rice Energy Purchase.  On Wednesday, EQT announced the company has floated $3 billion (yikes!) of IOUs–called “notes” in the financial industry–with various due dates and interest rates payable, in order to make a cash payment due as part of their purchase of Rice Energy. The total deal is worth $8.2 billion, with EQT paying $6.7 billion and assuming Rice’s existing debt of $1.5 billion.
  • Ohio EPA’s Craig Butler Goes Nuts, Demands $2.3M from Rover Pipe. From the day the first backhoe began digging in Ohio, it has appeared that Ohio EPA director Craig Butler has had a grudge against Rover Pipeline. We’re not saying Rover hasn’t had its fair share of environmental transgressions that need to be monitored and rectified. But Butler has been on a one-man mission to punish Energy Transfer, the builder, demanding (without legal authority) insanely high “fines” from ET Rover. At first it was $400,000. Then $900,000. Now Butler says ET owes the state $2.3 million!
  • Top 10 Drillers in All of PA, by Number of Permits Issued. Yesterday we brought you the “Top 10” drillers in southwestern Pennsylvania, as ranked by the number of permits issued (see Top 10 Drillers in SWPA, by Number of Permits Issued). Today we’re bringing you the Top 10 list of drillers by number of permits issued for the entire state of PA. As you might imagine, the picture statewide is quite a bit different from looking at only SWPA.
  • NEXUS Pipe Seeks to Begin Construction Oct 10; List of Contractors. Something just now coming to light. Last week NEXUS Pipeline sent a request to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) requesting that it be allowed to begin construction of the pipeline “on or before” Tuesday, October 10th. That’s next Tuesday, folks! NEXUS is a $2 billion, 255-mile interstate pipeline that will run from Ohio through Michigan and eventually to the Dawn Hub in Ontario, Canada.
  • List of 15 Active Marcellus/Utica Pipeline Projects Worth $23B. One of the major themes at this year’s Shale Insight, emphasized several times, is that “We need pipelines, and we need them asap.” MDN heard that refrain a number of times, in different sessions. The good news is that there is more than $23 billion in planned pipeline investment to build more than 3,200 miles of pipelines–either planned or under development–for the Marcellus/Utica region.
