Butler and Lewis: Takeaway is our regions need more pipelines

Per the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the Appalachian and Marcellus regions do not have enough “takeaway capacity” — in other words, pipelines — to meet basic family, electric, home heating and manufacturing demand.

If you don’t find this upsetting, you should. Ongoing bottlenecks and a lack of pipeline capacity could mean that many of us will soon lose affordable access to electricity and natural gas, especially during peak-use periods like bone-chilling winter days.
